Understanding and Addressing the Roots of Institutional, Structural, Systemic, Cultural, Interpersonal, Personal Racism and Implicit Bias

Four-hour workshop

This interactive workshop allows participants to explore the ways that racism has been woven into the foundation of America. In this workshop, participants will come face to face with historical examples of how the law was used as a tool to oppress Black bodies. After completing this workshop, participants will be able to: identify other tools that perpetuate anti-blackness, gain an understanding of how systems continue to oppress Black bodies, and challenge anti-blackness in their own lives. These objectives are achieved through journaling, reflection, and small and large group discussions.

Understanding the Roots of Racism & Bias

2-day seminar

This is a two-day seminar focused on disrupting racism and racial bias, increasing awareness of perpetual, systematic racial inequities through the lens of race, sex, and gender. The process consists of analyzing information to establish a baseline understanding of racial situations to better understand historical and current inequities, and disproportionate outcomes. It includes an experiential analysis and evaluation of the psychology and sociology of white supremacy, anti-blackness, anti-non-Whiteness, human behavior, and ongoing impacts to traditionally and perpetually marginalized communities, the result of living in a structurally racist and sexist culture. It is an essential starting point for any person or organization attempting to address or solve issues involving race (i.e., disproportionate outcomes by race, racial bias, racial exclusion, underrepresentation, anti-racism leadership practices, etc.). Participants engage in interactive exercises to provide opportunities to evaluate their own biases and examine how they fit into the larger cultural experience in the United States. This deep learning takes place in a supportive, encouraging, and challenging environment, with the goal of increasing cohesion, concern and understanding of the human experience.

Dante King

Dante King is a native of San Francisco, California. He is the author of the new book The 400-Year Holocaust: White America’s Legal, Psychopathic, and Sociopathic Black Genocide and the Revolt Against Critical Race Theory. Dante is an Assistant Professor of Medical Education, in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He serves as guest faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine (UCSF), where he has lectured for three years.

Dante’s academic disciplines include Afro-Realism, Critical Race Studies, including Anti-Blackness and Whiteness Studies; American History; African American Studies; African American History; and the ways that they have shaped American culture and institutions. Dante’s continued research interests include examinations of race, racism, and legality throughout pre-and-post colonial America, and their impacts on American culture and identity.

Dante is a historian, scholar, public motivational speaker, thought-leader, facilitator, and coach. He has worked and consulted for more than 15-years as a human resource management professional specializing in the implementation of anti-racist practice, and organizational development and change.
